Rules & Terms
Open Film submissions are Shorts & Episodic (1-40 min) OR, Features (41-100 min), under 2 years old preferred for all submissions. Most any genre. Official selection status is not guaranteed and the entry fee is nonrefundable. Official Selection producers will comply with specs and are responsible to perform Quality Control (Q/A-Q/C) checks on their submissions. Submit ProRes or DNxHD (No DCP).
OPEN FILM SUBMISSION TERMS:
Content Guidelines: The telling of a rough journey is ok, but we ask that you respect the audience by avoiding depiction of graphic details. Blasphemous films and gratuitous elements are unacceptable. No swearing, gratuitous sex, violence, language or drug use.
All entries must be in English or subtitled in English, unless special arrangements have been made with the festival. We may elect to “bleep” your film if accepted. By entering, you agree that this is ok.
LEGAL DISCLOSURES, DISCLAIMERS AND WARRANTIES:
The 168 Hour Film Project (referred to herein as “168”) is a Not for Profit Corporation. 168 operates the 168 Film Festival.
168 reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. 168 management will be the sole arbiter of official selections. Decisions of 168 management are final. Entries in our competitions and festivals are void where prohibited by law.
By entering the “Open" Film competition, entrants release and hold harmless 168, its Membership, Board of Directors, Officers, Staff and Volunteers from and against all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation with the festival or participation in any festival related activity.
Films submitted to 168 must not have major distribution in the United States of America. Entry fees must be paid in U.S. dollars before films will be reviewed.
Please note festival dates are subject to change. All festival screening times and venues are subject to delay or change.
By submitting to 168, all listed creators authorize the submission. In submitting your work to 168, you are warranting that your entry is your original work, and does not infringe on the copyright or other rights of other people.
All judge, programmer, and screener decisions are final. Film submissions will be uploaded.
TERMS OF USE:
Failure to comply with 168 guidelines, rules, regulations, or eligibility may be cause for disqualification and result in having your film pulled from screening or competition.
Any filmmaker or member of a film entourage causing a disruption or acting aggressively, disrespectfully or threateningly before, during or after the exhibition (including online behavior) to any of the volunteer staff or employees of the festival or of the screening venue may have their film removed from exhibition at any time without refund.
By entering (submitting to) the 168 Open category you are warranting that you have read, understood and agreed to follow our Rules and Regulations for festival submission and to abide by our Terms and Conditions of service.
By entering (submitting to) 168 you are granting the right for 168 to screen your film publicly and to use portions of your film as promotional or advertising material.
By entering (submitting to) 168 you acknowledge that you are not entitled to any refund or damage claims of any kind if your film is unable to screen due to technical or operational difficulties or if your film needs to be rescheduled or delayed for any reason.
168 reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
All fees are non-refundable. Failure to comply with the guidelines, rules, regulations, terms & condition or eligibility may be cause for disqualification and having your film pulled from screening or competition.
By submitting you are granting 168 the right to use screen grabs, press materials, film trailers and stills from your movie on our advertisements, press materials, festival programs and website.
By submitting you acknowledge that you are not entitled to any refund or damage claims of any kind if your film is unable to screen due to technical or operational difficulties or if your film needs to be rescheduled or delayed for any reason.
WARRANTIES AND REPRESENTATIONS BY ENTRANT
Entrant warrants and represents that the following are true and correct and will remain so throughout the Agreement Term:
a. Entrant has the full authority and capacity to enter into this agreement and the legal ability to grant the rights herein granted to 168.
b. Entrant is the owner of the Film and holds all rights that attach thereto.
c. Entrant has registered the Film with the Copyright Office or will register the Film within thirty days of submitting the Film to 168.
d. Entrant warrants that the Film is wholly original with Entrant, and is in no part based upon or adapted from any other literary material, dramatic work, motion picture, television production or other creative work.
e. Entrant acknowledges that rights and permissions, as set forth below, to said material have been obtained and entrant will provide documentation to 168 upon film submission.
f. Neither the Film nor the exercise of any Licensed Right does or will during the Term: (1) defame or hold in a false light, or infringe any privacy or publicity or other personal right of any person; (2) infringe on any copyright, trademark, trade secret, or similar property right of any person or entity; (3) interfere with any other contract or agreement with third-parties.
g. All required permissions, releases and clearances have been obtained by Entrant. Entrant further warrants that the Film is free of any and all claims regarding its content, and that said contents are original to the Film except as to the elements that the Entrant has obtained the necessary permissions, synch licenses, releases and clearances.
h. The Film has been produced by Entrant and is free and clear of all liens.
i. Entrant warrants and represents that it has given or will give 168 non-exclusive access to all film elements requested by 168 for the term of the exhibition.
DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES:
ENTRANT ACKNOWLEDGES AND AGREES THAT THIS SUBMISSION IS MADE ENTIRELY AT THE ENTRANT'S RISK.
EVENT SCREENINGS ARE PROVIDED TO YOU “AS IS” AND THE 168 HOUR FILM PROJECT MAKES NO REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY OF ANY KIND TO YOU, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL THE 168 HOUR FILM PROJECT BE LIABLE FOR
